A Unique Toy Story
|
Our aim is simple. Our natural wooden toys are not just that. They are works of art, made from eco friendly materials to create safe toys that have a great story to tell. We believe in keeping our costumers informed and knowledgeable, while making these toys fun and educational for children.
We tell you all about our safe, lead free toy story because we take pride in it.
Each toy is handmade by an artisan community in India. We believe in crediting these artisans and their art. We work hard to help sustain this particular art form by collaborating with them to consistently introduce new and innovative toys.

Our Process
|
The toys are made from a form of craft that is over two centuries old and has been traditionally made by an artisan community in Channapatna in southern India. Many artisans, both men and women that work on them, have learnt the craft from generations of family crafts people.
Earthentree ensures that the wood does not contribute to deforestation, only natural dyes are used in making its products and also absolutely no form of child labor is employed in its production process.
Hale wood billets
Sustainable and fast growing Hale wood (Wrightia Tinctoria) and Rubber wood (Hevea brasiliensis), is used for its fine grain and lightweight. The wood is cut into desired sizes and left for seasoning. They are then shaped into cylindrical billets.
 
The artisans use these seasoned billets in a lathe machine to turn them into various desired shapes with simple hand tools, smoothen them with sand paper and then apply natural dyes through pre- prepared color sticks in a traditional lacquer technique that is safe and non toxic.
Color sticks with natural and vegetable dyes
The color sticks are prepared from natural organic resin mixed with different natural and vegetable dyes for desired shades of color.
The finished pieces are examined for defects and various pieces are assembled into a finished product.

Dark Blue/black: Extracts from the Indigo Plant
Yellow: Turmeric Powder
Orange: Kanchi KumKum and Turmeric
Red: Kanchi KumKum and Natural Alizarin
Dark Brown: Extracts from the Ratanjyoti Tree
Light Brown: Extracts from Katha
